Skipping a couple of rooms, the next day we went back to the octagonal room and entered the south west passage. After a short amble and some checking for traps we arrived at a stone door. Didn’t look suspicious so we entered happily on our quest for riches. The room was huge, too big for our torches to light fully. Right in front of us was a pile of rubble. On closer examination it turned out to be a pile of what looked like fragments of small stone statues. Some looked like  goblins, some were small stone bats. Not crudely carved but terrifyingly lifelike and smooth. Almost as real as the live bats swirling around us in the eerie glow of our torches.

As we explored the room further we expected and hoped to find more tombs with gold or other valuables. What we didn’t expect was a giant 8-legged lizard creature wearing a brass alligator mask staring at us with piercing eyes. The monster was tied to the ceiling with a long metal chain but we couldn't tell how long or short it was so we were on our guard.

After some deliberation we decided to start attacking the lizard because, why the hell not? YOLO right?

Perhaps the weird staring and pile of the stone statues should have given us some pause, but nah, let’s start hacking away at it and see what happens!

Well, first off, Punchinka swung at it and in return was immediately semi immobilized - or so he said at least. “I feel a strange tingling in my arms and legs, and I can’t seem to think very fast”. This coming from Punchinka, we were like: “what else is new?”, but he did look a big gray-ish around the extremities.

We all took turns swinging our weapons at it, but nothing seemed to hurt the creature. After a couple of missed swings Pius started complaining about the same issues Punchinka had. He mumbled something about “perhaps we can trap the lizard by wrapping the chain around the pillars” but who cares about what ol’ Pius says right? Let’s keep hacking! Well, soon both Pius and Punchinka were turned into stone completely and Glubtubis and Gorog had to fight for their lives to finally finish off the monster.

The fearsome four was now the troubled two, with nothing shiny to show for it. Go team!
